![]() ![]() I have always been a go, go, go, go, GO kind of person. I love the quotes above from Nadine Richardson. And that’s how you’re going to be the best mom.” We need women that are empowered and happy. If we are judging ourselves, we stay at home in our little bubbles, and we go to mother’s groups and we start judging. Because the last thing we need is to feel isolated. “Learning in pregnancy to drop the judgment of yourself is such a great way to launch into parenthood. And how to channel that same strength and perseverance right into parenthood. They talk about what we can learn about ourselves from pregnancy and childbirth. Jan Dudley and doula, prenatal yoga instructor, and creator of She Births childbirth education program, Nadine Richardson, have a lot of great insight on how to make the birthing experience a beautiful one. We need the village.” In this video above I sit down with my OBGYN and Birthing Educator for a birthing team ‘debrief.’ I would love to hear your birth stories and lessons learned. Even though your red shoes might be sexy and eye-catching, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to make your legs look the longest.Ĭheck out the I'm a Runner series for even more tips and motivation from your favorite celebrity runners.“We need the sisterhood. On the air, a lot of us at Fox News wear nude-colored shoes. The shoes I run in are Asics-the Gel Noosa Tris, which I’ve had for probably three years. I also love Michi-it’s similar to Lululemon, but it’s a little bit sexier and spunkier because it’s got mesh on the sides. I don’t have any energy if I don’t have some carbs in my diet. Sometimes people think you have to stay away from carbs if you want to be in good shape, but I’m the opposite. I try not to eat carbs at night, but I eat a lot of sandwiches during the day. I also love dried edamame and seaweed snacks-dried seaweed with sesame and olive oil-they’re like chips.Īt home, I’ve been using the steamer a lot for vegetables. I know it’s not the best because they contain so much processed stuff, but I try to find ones that are low in fat and sugar. When I’m traveling, I find myself eating a lot of protein bars. I love old school hip-hop and whatever’s hot on the radio. This is so bad, I really like Nicki Minaj. Take a spin class or a Zumba class or something so that that hour of your day is one of your favorite hours and not an hour that you dread. If you’re somebody who runs five days a week, and you’re starting to dread your morning run, then mix it up a couple days a week. If you’re getting burnt out on running, find something else to supplement your workout. If I feel like I need to rest or if I feel like I need to have a good workout, even if it’s not on my set training plan-I do that. If you’re not a morning person, don’t try to run in the morning, and if you’re not a night person, don’t try to run at night. What about staying motivated for any type of workout? I would much rather bang it out and get through it. I also try to get a quality workout in, even if it’s 30 minutes. Whether it’s speed intervals or incline intervals. A lot of people will just stay on a 1.0 incline or just run at a 6.5 or something, but I like to do intervals. How do you stay motivated on the treadmill? But traveling a lot, sometimes I resort to the hotel treadmill. So I’ll run the Brooklyn Bridge, the Manhattan Bridge, the Williamsburg Bridge, and then along the West Side Highway. During marathon training I really like to run the bridges because of their incline and decline-it’s good practice. There’s a six-mile loop around the whole of Central Park, so I do that a lot. I always end up getting a better workout when I’m there than if I was just running down the West Side Highway or something. ![]() I’ve been probably a half-dozen times, and it’s very motivating. You go through a class on the treadmill, just like you would a spin class or something. It’s a really nice facility in the Noho area. There’s a new one called the Mile High Club in New York. I’m really into going to different boutique fitness studios around town. I’ve done that a couple times before-it’s good cross-training. I’m thinking about doing the New York City Triathlon, which is in July. I did two this year, and feel like I need to recoup just a little bit. I haven’t decided if I’m going to be doing any more marathons next year. Because my schedule is so crazy with the weekend morning show, reporting, and traveling a lot during the week, I sleep in shifts-I sleep about four hours at night and two hours in the afternoon. ![]() Play icon The triangle icon that indicates to playīefore popping the cork on 2015, Kooiman talked to Runner’s World about her New Year’s resolutions, her love for treadmills (really), and a how to stay-and look-fit on the road. ![]()
